Private tour to South Ossetia
Guide — Eka Kokoeva
Group: 1-2 people
We developed this tour for those who want to grasp the essence of South Ossetia’s most recent history in a short period of time. Two days are not enough to see all of this country’s tourist attractions, but enough to meet a diverse group of people, all of whom live in South Ossetia, and to hear their personal stories.
The majority of South Ossetia’s guests want to know about the reasons for its conflict with Georgia, about Russia’s role in the conflict, about who is to blame and who started first… During this trip, you will meet all kinds of people, and every one of them will give you his own answer.
Moreover, you will learn to toast like true Ossetians and will get a good taste of the local cuisine, because a full table is the best place to host guests.
The guide will meet you at Vladikavkaz, and two hours later you’ll be crossing the South Ossetian border. Then, a picturesque road will take you to Tskhinval.
Lunch with one of the city’s residents.
Following lunch, we’ll visit the National Museum of South Ossetia and stroll through the streets of Tskhinval with one of the people who defended the city from the very start of the conflict.
After the sundown, we’re invited to the traditional Ossetian feast.
A night will be spent in a guest house.
In the morning, we’ll drive to Leningor to visit the palace of the Ksani dukes. On the way back, we’ll visit the Church of St. George at Armazi, and will stop for lunch at one of the villages, where we’ll meet a veteran of the independence wars and learn all about the rural life.
After lunch, we’ll visit the village of Monaster to enjoy the artful stone carvings of the Tir Monastery. We’ll cross the Russian border in the evening, and will be at Vladikavkaz quite late.
